Transition to School meeting 26 May 2016

I have been invited by Eastbay REAP to speak at this hui, Transition to School held at Ohope Beach Primary School.

I will be talking about oral language and the importance for children to have reached their future “adult language” by age 5 ( the greatest  language acquisition develops between 3 and 5 years)  This underpins all their future formal literacy development and if not well enough developed may cause children to struggle with reading, writing and numeracy progress once they get to school. The foundations for successful formal learning are laid down in early childhood. A considerable challenge for early childhood teachers and parents/care givers.

It is great to see early childhood and junior primary teachers collaborating with transition to school.

The Transition to School hui is being coordinated by Sheryl Semmens.
