I recently recently attended the RT Lit’ Conference in Paihia, where I presented three workshops:

- and two covering the topic of “Oral language Competence-if you don’t get it…..”
Basic oral language competence should have developed by age 5. This then becomes the basis for formal literacy learning after a child enters school. There are youth with clinically significant but previously undetected oral language problems (up to 50 per cent) who end up in our justice system.
